The compact rear-wheel drive BMW Z3 roadster debuted in 1995. The car was the first model of the brand, the release of which was organized in the United States - at a plant in South Carolina. The basis for the creation of the roadster was taken platform sedan of the 3 series (E36).

 

At first, the BMW Z3 was offered only with a four-cylinder engine of 1.9 liters and a capacity of 140 hp., but the capabilities of this power unit were clearly not enough for a sports car. In the future, the range of engines gradually expanded: 1.8l (115 hp) appeared, in-line six-cylinder engines 2.0, 2.5 and 2.8, developing from 150 to 193 hp.

 

In 1998, BMW Z3 M Roadster was introduced, under the hood of which stood a 3.2-liter  with a capacity of 321 hp from the BMW M3.
