The production of heavy trucks in this series began in late 1993. 

It replaced a ruler called F Cabover, which has been assembled in the factory for 15 years. The development of Volvo FH began almost from scratch. Seven years passed from the first paper drawings of models to their first descent from the conveyor.

The first copies of the line were the FH12 with the D12A and FH16 engine, equipped with the D12A engine and transmission from the previous version.
